This soughtafter area of ancient Athens is within easy walking distance of the major tourist attractions of the city centre, as well as being nearby transport links for the Metro, bus and trolley.    Located at the foot of the Acropolis with Veikou Street being the main road running from North to South in Koukaki with immediately below the parallel road of Dimitrakopoulou running South to North. Close to the Acropolis and its Museum, Plaka, Herod Atticus, the pedestrian walkway of Dionysis Aeropagitou, National Gardens, Panathinaiko Stadium and of course Syntagma Square and the Parliament Building with the Presidential Guards protecting the Tomb of the unknown soldier.

Makriyianni Street runs next to the Acropolis Museum and leads to Dionysiou Aeropagitou. Here you will find small shops, restaurants and cafes with outdoor seating.   At the beginning, or on the right side you will see Hadrian’s Arch, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the National Gardens and the Panathinaiko Stadium. Taking a left turn from Dionysiou Aeropagitou will lead you to the entrance of the Acropolis as well as the Theatres of Dionysious and Herod Atticus. Continuing on a little further, you will pass through the neighbourhood of Thission and enter Plaka and Monastiraki.   Filopappou Hill offers excellent views of the city, as far as the port of Piraeus, with wooded paths for walkers, runners and bicycle riders 

Koukaki has risen in popularity during recent years with an increase in the number of quality restaurants, local bars and boutiques. Local craftsmen sell their shoes, bags, jewellery as well as an abundance of small supermarkets and bakeries offering their freshly baked breads, sweets and handmade foods.

Kountourioti Square at the end of Veikou Street, boasts a local playground with activities for small children.  It is open to the public and securely fenced around.
